On the afternoon of October 14, 2024, during its visit to Brazil, a delegation from the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), led by Wang Chengjie, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CIETAC, paid a visit to the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Sao Paulo and held discussions with Counselor Bai Chunhui and others.
Secretary-General Wang Chengjie remarked that, against the backdrop of China being Brazil’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years and the upgrade in the quality of economic and trade cooperation across various sectors, CIETAC has closely followed China’s efforts in opening up and the steps taken by enterprises in their “going global” strategies. CIETAC provides high-quality and efficient arbitration services to support the resolution of cross-border disputes in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative. Wang expressed his hope to continue promoting exchanges and cooperation with Brazilian enterprises and the legal community, with the support of the Consulate General, showcasing the achievements of China’s foreign-related legal system and contributing to the sound development of Sino-Brazilian economic and trade cooperation. He also highlighted CIETAC’s ongoing efforts to build a world-class arbitration institution and shared insights on CIETAC’s vision and strategies for providing high-quality dispute resolution services in support of China-Latin America economic and trade development in this new era.
Counselor Bai Chunhui noted that, with the deepening of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Brazil, a large number of Chinese enterprises have entered the Brazilian market. CIETAC, as a globally renowned and credible international arbitration institution, leverages its advantages in experience, resources, mechanisms, and platforms to engage in extensive exchanges with legal professionals and economic entities across Latin America, including Brazil. By gaining a deep understanding of the local legal services environment and the needs of enterprises, CIETAC aims to build a strong platform for international cooperation, which will contribute to the deep and solid development of China-Latin America economic and trade relations.
Both parties also conducted extensive discussions on topics such as helping enterprises effectively use arbitration mechanisms to prevent legal risks and protect their legitimate rights, promoting China-Latin America economic and trade exchanges, and supporting the Belt and Road Initiative.
The visit was attended by Guo Yinghui, General Representative of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Representative Office in Brazil, Li Dongcheng, Representative and Second-Level inspectors, and Wang Haocheng, Deputy Secretary General of CIETAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center.
